Running a command at startup

In this post I'll explain how to run particular application or command at startup(i.e when you login to your system.)

Here i am taking example of "Docky".

Docky is a dock for the GNOME desktop, very similar in functionality to Mac OS X's Dock.It is available for distributions such as Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, Sabayon, OpenSUSE and Arch Linux.

To install docky on Ubuntu you can type the following command in terminal:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:docky-core/ppa

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install docky or  search docky in Ubuntu Software Center and install from there. Step1: search "Startup Application" Step2: click "Add" Step3: provide Name: Docky <any name>                          Command: /usr/bin/docky                          Comment:<any comment or leave blank> Step4:click "Add" Now the question is how to get the command path for other applications that you want to run. Its simple, goto terminal and use whereis command. ex- to find the docky path name type whereis docky.      This will show many paths of executable docky command, use any of these.      like i have use here /usr/bin/docky in command field. So now whenever you login to your system docky will automatically start.
